About this recipe: This is such a fun gift! All the dry ingredients you need to make oatmeal cookies are layered in a glass jam jar. The note that's attached tells you exactly what to do! Perfect for the cookie monsters in your life!


Serves: 12 

  • 125g plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 110g dark brown soft sugar
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 85g wheatgerm
  • 80g porridge oats
  • 70g dried cherries
  • 50g desiccated coconut
  • 70g raisins

  1. Mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt together.
  2. Starting with the dark brown soft sugar, layer the ingredients in a 1 litre glass jar in the order given. Ending with the flour mixture. Attach a card with the following directions:
  3. Oatmeal Cookies
    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Line one baking tray with parchment.
    2. Empty the contents of the jar into a large bowl. Using a wooden spoon blend the mixture until well combined.
    3. Using your hands, rub in 110g softened butter or margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    4. Beat 1 egg with 1 teaspoon vanilla and 60ml milk. Still using your hands or a wooden spoon, blend the egg mixture into the dough until well combined.
    5. Drop teaspoon sized mounds 5cm apart onto the prepared baking tray. Bake at 180 C / Gas 4 for 10 to 14 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Place cookies on a rack to finish cooling. Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies.
