One-Bowl Chocolate Cake

    A chocolate cake that is delicious AND saves on washing up! This chocolate cake couldn't be easier. Ice with your favourite chocolate buttercream.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 24 

    • 225g plain flour
    • 45g unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 300g caster sugar
    • 110g butter, softened
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 350ml milk

    Method
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour a 23x33cm baking tin.
    2. Sift together the flour, cocoa, bicarbonate of soda and salt, set aside. In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until smooth. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternately with the milk. Once all of the ingredients have been incorporated, mix on high speed of an electric mixer for 2 to 3 minutes. Pour cake mixture into the prepared tin.
    3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

    Cake tins

    You can use two (23cm) round cake tins or three (20cm) round cake tins instead, just adjust the baking time as needed.

    very good and easy to make... i used half as much sugar as called for b/c i read somewhere you can do that if you are trying to cut down on sugar... and it still tastes good... i also put some cinnamon in it b/c i think cocoa and cinnamon go great together. i might make this again.  -  19 Aug 2007  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

    The only thing that I changed about this recipe is that I made cupcakes instead of a normal cake. This cake was so easy to make, good for when your in a rush. Although the batter did taste weird at first, after it was in the mixer for 5 minutes it tasted better but when the cupcakes came out they instantly turned flat.  -  10 Jun 2007  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)
