    About this recipe: To keep the flavour of the fresh shellfish, I like to keep it simple. Serve with crisp white wine to drink and plenty of crusty bread.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 5 

    • 4kg fresh mussels, cleaned and debearded
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 1 clove garlic, minced

    Method
    Prep:20min  ›  Cook:35min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. While you are cleaning the mussells, throw away any cracked or open ones.
    2. Fill a large pot with mussels. Sprinkle chopped onions and garlic over the shellfish. Do not add water, as mussels produce all the water needed for steaming! Cook over high heat until most or all of the mussels open. Discard any that do not open.
