Egg in Bread

    10 min

My mum used to make these for us when we were youngsters. You can fry the egg to your liking, flipping it over if you like a harder yolk. The cheese slice is optional!

    Serves: 6

    • 6 slices bread
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 6 eggs
    • 6 slices Cheddar cheese

    Prep:2min  ›  Cook:8min  ›  Ready in:10min

    1. Preheat a large frying pan to a high heat.
    2. With a small biscuit cutter stamp out centres from bread. Butter slices on one side only. Fry bread, buttered side down first, until lightly toasted. Flip it over, then crack an egg into each bread hole (be careful not to break the yolk). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Lay 1 slice of cheese on each egg, if desired. Cook until eggs are cooked to your liking.

Nice one for the kids, I buttered both sides as I find the unbuttoned side can catch and burn without the extra butter.  -  22 Jan 2016
