We came up with them when we had a major chocolate cake craving but had forgotten to pick up some eggs. They are a real crowd pleaser - very moist and really chocolatey - and are great to knock up for a party at the last minute. Serve with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce for a gorgeous brownie-like dessert.
For the richest, most moist and delicious cakes ever, use real drinking chocolate flakes instead of cocoa powder (Montezumas and Choccywoccydoodah both do excellent versions).
Serve with ice cream, cream, chocolate sauce or fruit for a dinner party-ready dessert - or ice and decorate them for parties!
Replace the milk and margarine with vegan substitutes for a tasty vegan version of this eggless recipe.
Brilliant recipe! Very easy and made a great dessert for the family. A lot like brownies. I substituted wholemeal for white flour and had no wine vinegar so used a tiny bit of white vinegar. Turned out great. Thank you. Xx - 02 Mar 2014
