If you don't like the idea of the brown sugar and the cinnamon on top of the muffins then you can ice them instead. Mix 2 tablespoons of water and 120g of icing sugar in a bowl and mixture until smooth and glossy. Drizzle the icing on to the muffins when they are cool.

Couldn't really taste Apple as the cinnamon dominated the flavour however the muffins are very moist and I will try making them again but use fresh apples - 24 Nov 2015
