About this recipe: These sweet and sour meatballs are so unbelievably easy to make. The sauce comes together in no time. You could add some roughly chopped red or green pepper to the sauce, along with spring onions and water chestnuts, to round out the recipe. Serve over steamed rice.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4

    • 450g minced beef
    • 1 egg
    • 4 tablespoons dried breadcrumbs
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 220g dark brown soft sugar
    • 3 tablespoons plain flour
    • 350ml water
    • 4 tablespoons white vinegar
    • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

    1. In a medium bowl, combine the mince, egg, breadcrumbs and onion. Mix thoroughly and shape into golf ball-sized balls.
    2. In a large frying pan over medium heat, gently brown the meatballs and set aside.
    3. In a large saucepan, combine the brown sugar, flour, water, white vinegar and soy sauce. Mix thoroughly. Add meatballs and bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, for 30 minutes.

Easy to make and very tasty! Next time I'm only going to use half an onion as I felt an entire one was too much. - 21 Feb 2016
