Very simple and nice result. Ginger flavour was very subtle, despite putting in a full can of ginger beer and about about 1.5 inches cubed of root ginger. The meat was very tender and tasty. Used unsmoked gammon and didn't pre-boil (as is often done to remove saltiness) - meat wasn't noticeably salty in the end so would do the same again next time. - 17 Jan 2016
This is a great recipe! I personally didn't add the extra ginger or sugar as I thought it might be a bit too sweet. I put some bacon ribs underneath the joint of gammon which added to the flavour. My partner turned the slow cooker on before he went to work at 4am, it cooked all day and then I finished it off in the oven for half an hour. Served it with mash and was delicious!!
