This is a simple pasta dish because it's all cooked in the one pot. It's a recipe from a friend of ours but has become a firm family favourite in our house. I usually use macaroni pasta but you can use any type you have on hand.
Heat the vegetable oil in a medium-large saucepan over medium heat.
Add chopped onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add crushed garlic, salt, pepper, sugar and tomato puree; stir well. Add tins of tomatoes and water; bring to the boil. Add pasta and bay leaf, and cook until pasta is cooked, about 8 minutes.
Remove bay leaf and stir in tuna. Serve hot with garlic bread.
