Deluxe Croque Monsieur

    I look forward to making this sandwich when I have leftover béchamel sauce form a lasagne or cauliflower cheese recipe. Makes a lovely lunch with a green salad. This recipe serves 2.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 2 

    • 4 slices French bread
    • 2 slices of cooked ham
    • 10 thin slices of Comté or gruyere cheese
    • 4 tablespoons Béchamel sauce
    • 75g grated cheese

    Method
    Prep:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:20min 

    1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Put the rack at mid height.
    2. Butter the 4 slices of bread. Fold each slice of ham to be the same size as the bread, and place one on 2 of the slices of bread. Add 5 slices of cheese on top of the ham. Top with a slice of bread.
    3. In a bowl, mix the béchamel sauce with grated cheese. Spread over each sandwich. Place on a baking tray and cook for 10 minutes until golden brown.
