Jujube or Chinese red dates are naturally sweet and regarded as a superfood in China. You will often find them used to flavour congee which is a rice porridge.

Ingredients

30 pieces seedless Chinese red dates (Jujube)
100g rice, rinsed
1L cold water
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar, to sweeten (optional)

Soak the red dates in water for 30 minutes; rinse and drain.
Place rice in a saucepan; add cold water. Bring to the boil and stir for 10 minutes; reduce heat and add dates. Simmer over low heat until thickened, about 10 to 20 minutes; sweeten with sugar to taste and serve hot.
Tip:
You can find seedless Jujube or Chinese red dates in Asian supermarkets or online.
