About this recipe: Delicious brownies, perfect for after dinner and pack ups. Chocolate brownies are always a favourite.

Makes: 8 slices

  • 150g butter or margarine
  • 200g cheap dark chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 225g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 75g plain flour
  • 1 pinch salt

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Melt butter and chocolate in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Mix together well once melted.
  3. Take off the heat and add vanilla and sugar, folding in. Whisk in the eggs and egg yolk and sift in flour and salt. Beat thoroughly. Tip mixture into a tin.
  4. Bake until a skewer inserted near the centre comes out clean, about 35 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven, leave to cool in tin for 10 minutes and mark into bars.

Made this with kids aged 2 to 10. Super easy (used microwave to melt butter and chocolate) and tastes delicious. Using an 800W microwave we put the butter in a suitable bowl, microwaved on high for 30second bursts until melted then added the chocolate and st irred until melted together. No extra heat was required to melt the chocolate. Otherwise instructions were followed as normal. - 16 Sep 2014


You can melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave - it doesn't matter. I burnt the chocolate a bit and it didn't make a difference. Happy eating!! - 21 Dec 2014
