Slow Cooker Gammon

About this recipe: Gammon cooked in the slow cooker with orange juice, soy and honey. Served with mashed potato mixed with cabbage and leeks and the sweet juices poured over.

Ingredients
Serves: 4 

  • approx 500g smoked gammon joint
  • 200ml orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 heaped tablespoon honey
  • pepper to taste

Method
Prep:3min  ›  Cook:8hr  ›  Ready in:8hr3min 

  1. Turn the slow cooker to 'low'. Remove the wrapping from the gammon and place the joint in the slow cooker.
  2. Add all other ingredients, cover and cook for 8 hours or longer if desired.
  3. Slice the gammon and serve. The sauce is quite runny but could be thickened with a little cornflour.

Brilliant for a slow cooker - wonderful aroma and just oozing with flavor - great for those with little time for cooking. Wife loved it and so did I. Mash was great just balances out this meal - 18 Mar 2013

Made this the other night and it was absolutely delicious. I was sceptical of the Orange juice but the acidity was balanced perfectly by the honey and the sweet was balanced by the salt of the soy. Only thing I would add would be a teaspoon of dried chilli flakes as I felt the flavour could with that little lift. served it with creamy mash which just cut through the sharpness! Definitely making this again and it was so easy! - 24 Oct 2014
