About this recipe: Frozen bananas are coated with chocolate, then rolled in coconut or chopped nuts, or whatever you like! Great fun to make and eat.

    Ingredients
    Makes: 10 monkey tails

    • 10 wooden ice pop sticks
    • 5 very ripe bananas, peeled and halved crosswise
    • 450g chocolate or choc chips
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • Dessicated coconut or chopped nuts, as needed

    Method
    Prep:30min  ›  Extra time:3hr freezing  ›  Ready in:3hr30min

    1. Insert 1 wooden stick into the cut end of each banana. Place the bananas on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and freeze until the bananas are frozen, about 2 hours.
    2. Melt the chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each melting, for 1 to 3 minutes (depending on your microwave). Do not overheat or chocolate will scorch.
    3. Dip the frozen bananas in the melted chocolate, spooning the chocolate over the banana to cover it completely. Roll in coconut or nuts, or both if desired. Place the dipped bananas back on the baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and freeze until the chocolate is firm.

    Another serving suggestion:

Place the melted chocolate in a small plastic bag. Snip the end of the bag and drizzle over the frozen chocolate covered banana. Return the bananas to the freezer until the chocolate is firm.

I made these today with my 3 boys and they enjoyed making them. They stayed on the stick well which I didn't expect. We used sprinkles instead or coconut to make them a little more child friendly. They seemed to like them but only ate half each as I think they were a little to sweet - next time we'll make smaller portions by cutting the banana into quarters instead of halves.  -  20 Apr 2014

Huge fun for my youngest boy and I to have today while everyone else was out. I used organic bananas, extra-dark chocolate chips and we used both chopped salted peanuts and toasted coconut to roll the bananas. We were able to make these this morning and they were ready to enjoy after Quiet Time. HUGE hit. We loved this.  -  03 May 2011  (Review from Allrecipes US | Canada)

My niece and I had fun decoating these we used a variety of items including: chopped peanuts, coconut, M&M's, colored sprinkles, and mini marshmallows. These not only look good, but taste good too!
