If the dates you are using are dry, chop them and soak them in the milk with 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda for an hour, other wise move to the next step.
This recipe was easy to follow and the end result was delicious. I used date paste and it was a lot quicker and easier to use than pitted dates. I split the mixture into two small foil containers, one of which I put in the freezer for a later date. This cake was moist and my friends found it very moorish. I look forward to making it again as I'm sure the cake in the freezer won't be in there for too long! - 25 Jun 2012
