About this recipe:A simple and tasty starter or nibble. Breadcrumbed and deep fried mozzarella served with a spicy sauce made using Heinz Tomato Soup. Using the soup and a few ingredients makes for a quick flavoursome dip to impress guests for an impromptu first course. Most ingredients you may already have in your larder and fridge.
Drain the brine from the mozzarella balls. Cut each ball in half then each half into 3 equal size pieces. You should end up with 6 pieces per ball and per person.
Remove excess moisture slightly by dabbing the mozzarella with kitchen towel.
Have 3 bowls ready. One with a little plain flour, another with the beaten egg and another with breadcrumbs.
Dip each piece of mozzarella first into the flour, shake off the excess. Dip into the egg and finally into the breadcrumbs, pressing firmly to coat. Repeat with remaining mozzarella. Chill for at least 15 minutes before cooking or prepare in advance.
When ready to cook, heat a small wok or saucepan with oil. Deep fry the mozzarella pieces a few at a time until golden. Drain on absorbent paper.
Meanwhile, open the tin of Heinz soup and place in a saucepan. Add the paprika, sweet chilli sauce, seasoning and chilli powder. Gently heat through while the mozzarella is cooking.
When ready to serve: stir through the basil into the dipping sauce. Serve on a platter with individual pots of dipping sauce. Serve warm. Belissimo!
