About this recipe: Rice made in the microwave makes for a much easier clean up! This version has chopped onion included which adds a nice flavour.


Serves: 4 

  • 185g rice
  • 475ml water
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion

Prep:5min  ›  Cook:12min  ›  Extra time:10min resting  ›  Ready in:27min 

  1. Place all ingredients in a microwave safe container that has a lid. Stir well, leave the lid on but allow a little space for steam to escape. Microwave on high for 7 minutes.
  2. Change the microwave setting to medium; cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from microwave, fluff with a fork; cover the container and set aside to rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove and fluff again before serving.
