    About this recipe: Sweet and tart red cabbage is a colourful side dish, perfect alongside sausage and mash, as well as your Christmas turkey. This red cabbage recipe is dead easy thanks to the slow cooker!

    Serves: 6 

    • 1 red cabbage, coarsely shredded
    • 3 onions, chopped
    • 4 apples, peeled and shredded
    • 300ml hot water
    • 3 tablespoons brown soft sugar
    • 180ml vinegar
    • 60g butter
    • salt to taste

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:8hr  ›  Ready in:8hr15min 

    1. Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker and stir well. Cover and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours, or on High for 3 hours.


    If there's too much liquid at the end of cooking, simmer with the lid off till the desired consistency is reached.

    Very easy and a fantastic side dish to Christmas dinner, or any roast. Will be making again and again!  -  08 Jan 2012


    I will make it again but definitely add WAY less vinegar. 180ml is too much for my taste, the final dish was so extremely sour that I had to add more sugar to balance it out.  -  09 Oct 2014
