Paul's basic scones

    Serves: 9 

    • 50g unsalted butter
    • 200g self-raising flour
    • 1 tablespoon golden caster sugar
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 125ml milk

    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
    2. Rub the butter into the flour, until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and salt.
    3. Make a well in the centre of the mix and stir in the milk. Stir until the mixture is even and the dough comes together.
    4. Turn out onto a floured surface and shape into a rough square about 3 to 4cm thick. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
    5. Brush all over with milk and score into nine rough squares.
    6. Bake for 15 minutes until golden and cooked through.
    7. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or cold.

    I made these this afternoon and they are quite nice all tho I needed to have a bit more sugar as they want sweet enough and I also put in a few raisins, will be using this recipe again  -  22 May 2013


    Follwed this recipe today, they hardly rose and looked nothing like the image, which is unfortunate. Ok scones but definitely nothing like the image.  -  03 Sep 2013
