About this recipe: A light but tasty chocolate cake. This cake uses cocoa powder and is easily paired with your favourite icing.

Serves: 8 

  • 170g self raising flour
  • 1 heaped tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 170g soft butter
  • 170g demerara sugar
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1 heaped teaspoon baking powder
  • Icing of your choice

  1. Preheat oven to 170 C / Gas 3. Grease two cake tins.
  2. Place flour in a bowl take out 1 heaped tablespoon of flour and replace it with cocoa powder. Sieve mixture into another large bowl.
  3. Add butter, sugar and eggs to flour mix. (the mixture should fall off the spoon but reluctantly.) If too thick add milk a tablespoon at a time.
  4. Share mixture between the two tins and bake for 30 minutes. Do not open the oven until the 30 minutes is up!


Let cake cool before icing it!
