About this recipe: Delectable chestnut stuffing for your Christmas turkey. This is a wholesome, classic recipe that is always welcomed by guests.


Makes: 1 recipe stuffing for 1 turkey

  • 175g chestnuts
  • 175g butter or margarine
  • 3 sticks celery, chopped
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 1 loaf stale bread, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning

  1. Preheat the oven to 250 C / Gas 9.
  2. With a sharp knife, cut an X into each chestnut, trying to pierce through skin without breaking flesh. Place on a baking tray and roast for 15 minutes.
  3. Cool chestnuts, shell and peel. Break into small pieces.
  4. In a large pan, melt the butter and saute the celery and onion over medium heat. When onions are soft and translucent, add chestnuts, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning.
  5. Place the bread cubes in a large bowl, and pour the chestnut mixture over the top. Beat the eggs and milk together and drizzle over the stuffing mix. Toss.
  6. Stuff your turkey with the stuffing mixture, and place any extra in an aluminium foil parcel in oven to cook alongside the turkey.
