Zee's perfect chocolate chip cookies

    Makes cookies to perfection! Milk chocolate chips can be replaced with dark chocolate chips, nuts or M&M's®.

    Makes: 12 

    • 112g butter
    • 170g light brown soft sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 200g plain flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda or baking powder
    • 200g milk chocolate, roughly chopped

    1. Preheat oven to 170 C / Gas 3. In a freestanding electric mixer or using a hand held whisk, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    2. Add egg to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing until well incorporated. Add vanilla extract.
    3. In a separate bowl mix together flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda.
    4. Add the flour mixture in small amounts until a dough is formed. Add chocolate chips making sure they are mixed in well.
    5. Arrange 6 equal amounts of dough on a baking tray allowing 2cm between each amount of dough giving them enough room to spread.
    6. Bake until golden, about 15 minutes.

    Other ideas

    Split the tough into two equal amounts, roll into a long sausage and then cut into 6 equal circles in order to split the dough equally and ensure cookies come out the correct size.
