Preheat the oven to 220 C / Gas 7. Lightly grease a baking tray.
Sift the plain flour, wholemeal flour, bicarb, cream of tartar and salt into the bowl; mix well.
Add the margarine and rub into the mix until crumbly.
Now stir in your milk to form a soft but not a sticky dough.
Dust your hands with a little flour and bring the dough together and shape into a ball.
Place the ball onto the baking tray and flatten slightly and cut a cross in the top of the dough to make into quarters.
Now bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden and risen and the base sounds hollow when the loaf is lifted. Wear an oven glove or a tea-towel and tap with your knuckles. Cool on a wire rack and allow to cool. I hope you enjoy.
