Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease a medium tin with butter.
Butter the bread until covered, but not too much or it will get too greasy. Put your fruit in. It can be sultanas, berries or even bananas. Make sure you put the fruit under the bread or it will turn into charcoal. Put the bread into the tin.
Next whisk the eggs in a jug and add the milk, making it a light creamy colour. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread and wait for it to soak up a bit, 5 to 10 minutes.
Bake until golden brown, 30-45 minutes. Leave it to cool. Decorate it with fruit over the top, cream or ice cream.
