About this recipe: This spaghetti Bolognese is the most comforting meal you will ever eat. It is more garlicky than many Bolognese sauces but it is simple and delicious. Once you have tasted this, you will never want to eat sauce from a jar ever again!

Serves: 2 

  • drop olive oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, crushed, or to taste
  • 1 red onion, minced
  • 350g lean beef mince
  • dash red wine
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 100g (half tube) tomato puree
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian mixed dried herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 handful (per person) pasta
  • 1 tablespoon green pesto
  • 1 teaspoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Heat a drop of olive oil in a pan, add the garlic and onions. Stir until onions are soft.
  2. Add the beef mince and fry until brown. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add a dash of red wine and cook until the wine has reduced.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and tomato puree. Add mixed herbs, paprika and garlic salt. Stir into the mixture.
  5. Put the pasta on to boil according to packet instructions.
  6. Add the green pesto to the sauce, stir in and simmer until pasta is cooked.
  7. Drain the pasta, pour into bowls and serve the Bolognese directly on top. Add grated Parmesan to taste. ENJOY!


The beef mince can be substituted for a vegetarian option if necessary.


Wholemeal pasta works particularly well with this recipe. It doesn't have to be spaghetti!

brilliant recipe i used less garlic and had no Italian spices so threw in coriander cumin chilli powder and some all spice was lovely highly recommended i also crushed in a beef oxo cube thank you very much for sharing your recipe i loved it will never buy a jar again - 27 Feb 2015
