About this recipe: A quick BBQ sauce using bits and bobs from the cupboard. This is very good painted over ribs or chicken and then cooked in the oven or on a BBQ, and rather nice with sausages too.

Serves: 4 

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed and chopped
  • 1 red chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown soft sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons English mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup

Prep:5min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:15min 

  1. Lightly fry the onion, garlic and chilli in the olive oil until the onion is soft and starting to colour.
  2. Add the sugar and allow to dissolve.
  3. Add soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard, paprika and ketchup and stir.
  4. Cook over a low heat for at least 5 minutes, taste and adjust according to taste.
