Fondant aux pommes (French apple cake)

About this recipe: A delicious yet easy to make French cake, best enjoyed when apples are in season and full of flavour.


Serves: 8 

  • 3 apples - cored, peeled and sliced
  • 150g wholemeal flour
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder.
  • 3 eggs
  • 150ml vegetable oil
  • 75g butter, melted

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:45min  ›  Ready in:1hr 

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Lightly grease a 23x30cm baking tin and place apple slices in tin.
  2. In a medium bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, eggs, oil and melted butter and mix until smooth.
  3. Pour mixture over apples (don't worry if it doesn't cover apples completely!) and bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm or cool.
