Walnut whirl biscuits

    One important tip for making these biscuits: the walnuts must be ground very finely, otherwise they will clog the nozzle of the pastry bag.

    Serves: 40 

    • 150g butter, softened
    • 150g caster sugar
    • 2 eggs, at room temperature
    • 250g plain flour
    • 100g walnuts
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
    • icing sugar or dark chocolate, melted

    1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas 6. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
    2. In a bowl beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer till creamy. Add eggs, one after another, and beat till fluffy.
    3. In your food processor, chop walnuts with cinnamon to a very fine meal. Add to the egg mixture, together with the flour and vanilla sugar.
    4. Fill mixture in a a piping bag with a wide star shaped nozzle and squirt small bars or rings onto the baking tray.
    5. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
    6. Dust biscuits with icing sugar or dip the ends in melted chocolate. Let set completely before storing in tin cans.
