    About this recipe: A hazelnut and chocolate spread that you can make at home from wholesome ingredients, this spread has less fat and is less sweet than the popular Nutella® but your kids won't know the difference!

    Makes: 1 (260ml) jar

    • 70g plain chocolate (70% cacao), chopped
    • 30g butter
    • 100ml evaporated milk
    • 35g dark brown soft sugar
    • 2 tablespoons vanilla sugar
    • 60g hazelnut butter
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1. Heat the chocolate with the butter in a microwaveable bowl on High for 1 minute. Stir until smooth and melted.
    2. Whisk in the milk, dark brown soft sugar and vanilla sugar, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is homogeneous.
    3. Stir in the hazelnut butter and vanilla extract to form a smooth paste. Place the mixture in a jam jar with a lid, and cool in the fridge for at least 1 hour to allow it to thicken.


    You can find hazelnut butter in health food shops and online. Other nut butters can be used, such as almond butter or peanut butter.
