Chicken gizzards with mushrooms

    A very tasty way of preparing chicken gizzards - they are first pan fried and then stewed with mushrooms in creamy sauce.

    Serves: 4 

    • 800g chicken gizzards
    • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2 onions, minced
    • 250g button mushrooms, chopped
    • salt and pepper
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 4 tablespoons soured cream

    1. Wash gizzards and cut into small chunks.
    2. Heat half of the oil in a frying pan and brown gizzards. Transfer to a pot.
    3. Heat remaining oil in the pan and fry mushrooms and onions till they start to soften.
    4. Add onion and mushrooms on top of gizzards. Add stock or water to just cover. Add salt, pepper and bay leaf.
    5. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 1 hour. Check the level of liquid from time to time and add water as needed.
    6. In the last 10 to 15 minutes, add sourced cream.
