Bring the water to the boil in the pot and add stock cubes to it. Stir till dissolved. Add lentils to the stock, and reduce the heat to simmer. (Remember to stir occasionally.)
Prepare the garlic, chilli and potatoes; add to the pot.
Cook the bacon in a frying pan. Then finely chop it and add it to the pot.
Add one dessertspoon of all purpose gravy granules for a bit of extra thickness and flavour. Leave to simmer for 20 minutes.
