About this recipe: Sangrita is a favourite Mexican chaser that is traditionally served alongside a shot of tequila. Serve sangrita at your next party, and guests will be talking about it the next day!

Serves: 20 

  • 1 litre freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 250ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • hot sauce to taste
  • salt to taste
  • 1 thin slice of onion
  • 60ml pomegranate juice (optional)
  • To serve
  • tequila shots (optional)

Prep:15min  ›  Extra time:20min resting  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Pour the lime juice into a glass jug and add the slice of onion. Let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes to let the flavours mingle.
  2. Remove onion, and add the orange juice, hot sauce and salt. Stir well. Stir in the pomegranate juice, if using.
  3. Serve chilled in shot glasses alongside shots of tequila. Or, enjoy on its own on the rocks. Enjoy!
