This makes a lovely Christmas starter salad. Pears are fried in butter and honey then served on top of a mixed salad of lettuce, Parma ham and blue cheese.

1/2 head lettuce, torn
8 cucumber slices
1 small tomato, sliced
2 slices Parma ham, torn
50g Dolcelatte cheese, crumbled
1 teaspoon butter
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 pear, peeled and quartered
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Combine the lettuce, cucumber, tomato, Parma ham and Dolcelatte in a large bowl.
Melt the butter and olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Fry the pear quarters until they start to soften and colour, about 4 minutes. Gently stir in the honey to coat the pears; add the balsamic vinegar.
Place the pears on top of the salad and toss with remaining pan juices.
