Chocolate and nut flapjacks

    An easy traybake to make for bake sales. You can zig zag melted chocolate over the flapjacks once they've cooled down.

    Serves: 6 

    • 50g (2 oz) plain chocolate
    • 35g (1¼ oz) margarine
    • 140g (5 oz) porridge oats
    • 3 tablespoons sugar
    • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 50g (2 oz) chopped nuts

    1. Preheat oven to 220 C / Gas 7. Grease a shallow 18x18cm (7x7 in) tin.
    2. Melt chocolate and margarine in bowl over pan of hot water. Add all other ingredients except the chopped nuts and mix together.
    3. Turn into prepared tin, pressing down to make it level and sprinkle nuts on top. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
    4. Cut into fingers or squares and leave to cool.
