About this recipe: A simpler version of the classic dauphinois potatoes that's very popular in our house! Use the slicer side of a grater to get more even slices of potato.

  • 3 large potatoes, finely sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • milk
  • salt, black pepper and mixed herbs for seasoning
  • grated cheese
  • grated nutmeg

  1. Preheat oven to 170-180 C / Gas 3-4.
  2. Layer potatoes in large ovenproof dish. Add sufficient amount of milk to the beaten egg to bring the liquid up to within 1.5cm of the top layer of the potatoes. Season with salt, pepper and herbs to taste.
  3. Cover generously with grated cheese and then sprinkle on some nutmeg.
  4. Cook in preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes, until potatoes are cooked through.
