Break the chocolate into small pieces and place in a pan with milk; simmer until dissolved, about 5 minutes.
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy; add egg yolks, breadcrumbs and milk mixture; stir in vanilla essence. Stir in egg whites and turn into buttered mould. Steam for 1 1/2 hours.
