Golden syrup sponge cake

A moist, surprisingly light sponge made with brown sugar and golden syrup. Made as a traybake, it's easy to ice and serve in squares.

Really lovely cake, and easy too! Having read previous reviews I added a dash of baking powder and the cake is light as a feather. I cooked in a 9 inch square tin and it took about 35 mins at 170c. Topped it with a caramel buttercream (shop bought, I must admit) but absolutley delish

Lovely cake. Baked for friends as a quick one and was told it's my best cake to date. I did add a little milk, probably about 3tbsps and a shake of baking powder to make it lighter and it was beautifully light, moist and tasty! I also baked at 180/190 for about 13 minutes then turned down to 170 for the rest of the time. Rose perfectly in a tray bake tin and tasted lovely. I highly recommend this recipe.
