Preheat the oven to 170 C / Gas 3. Lightly grease and flour a cake tin.
Soak apricot halves in warm water for 30 minutes; drain and cut into small pieces.
Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs; stir in flour, salt, orange juice, cherries, almonds and apricots. Add a dash of milk if necessary to improve consistency; pour into prepared tin.
Bake in the preheated oven until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean, about 3 hours.
