This large chocolate sponge cake is light in texture and filled with a buttercream icing. If you like, you can even glaze it with melted chocolate. This is a good sized cake for a birthday celebration.

I've previously tried several sponge cake recipes which all turned out like hard crusty bricks. Wasn't sure if it was my new fan oven or if I was just rubbish. Jean I take my hat off to you, big big thank you!! One extemely light and fluffy sponge cake now sat in the kitchen!
