Chocolate or plain cake

About this recipe: A two-in-one recipe, you can choose to make a plain cake or a chocolate cake. This recipe is quick, easy and helpful. Does not take long at all, enjoy!

Ingredients

Serves: 8 

  • 175g (6 oz) butter
  • 175g (6 oz) caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 175g (6 oz)self-raising flour
  • or 85g (3 oz) self-raising flour plus 85g (3 oz) cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Method

Prep:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min 

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Stir the butter and sugar till soft and creamy.
  3. Add the eggs and stir well after each addition.
  4. Sieve the flour or the flour and cocoa powder into the mixture and stir.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract, baking powder and milk.
  6. Grease two sandwich tins and divide the mixture between the tins.
  7. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes.

Tip

An easy way to grease a tin is to grease it with butter and spread flour on it and add your mixture on top!

I had apples that needed to be cooked and wanted a quick recipe and this one was perfect just added the apples at the end and less sugar. My son loves plain cake no frosting no sugar sprinkles, will use it next time with cupcakes so it will be even quicker.Cheers - 09 Oct 2013
