    About this recipe: This is my recipe for the kids' favourite. Try adding anything from bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes or onions.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 2 

    • 170g (6 oz) macaroni
    • 25g (1 oz) butter
    • 25g (1 oz) wholemeal flour
    • 300ml (1/2 pt) milk (or more)
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1 pinch nutmeg
    • 170-225g (6-8 oz) grated cheese

    Method

    1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Boil macaroni in a saucepan with salted water until tender. Leave until water is almost absorbed.
    3. Meanwhile, melt butter in a pan, add flour, stirring constantly and alternating with small amount of milk until paste begins to boil. Remove from heat.
    4. Add salt, nutmeg, grated cheese and then macaroni. Stir thoroughly. Empty into fireproof dish and bake in preheated oven until browned, about 30 to 45 minutes.
