Ovaltine® fruit loaf

    This was one of my favourite recipes my mum used to make when I was younger, and now I make it to re-live those days.

    Makes: 1 loaf cake

    • 360g self raising flour
    • 60g caster sugar
    • 2 tablespoons Ovaltine®
    • 120g mixed dried fruit
    • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 240ml milk

    1. Sift the flour into a bowl then mix in the sugar, Ovaltine® and dried fruit before stirring in the golden syrup and beaten egg. Add just enough milk to give a dropping consistency. Turn into a greased and floured loaf tin.
    2. Bake in a preheated 140 C / Gas 2 oven for about 3 hours or until the top of the cake is golden and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake emerges cleanly.
    3. Turn onto a wire rack and allow to cool completely before serving.
