    About this recipe: Children will delight in this unique cake that's formed into the shape of an ant hill. This Russian favourite is fun to make with the kids, too!

    Serves: 8 

    • 200g butter, melted
    • 100g caster sugar
    • 125ml soured cream
    • 500g plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • poppy seeds, to decorate
    • 1 (397g) tin caramel
    • 200g butter

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
    2. Combine 200g melted butter and caster sugar. Stir well. Add the soured cream and whisk together till smooth. Sift in the flour and baking powder, and knead together to a smooth and stiff dough.
    3. Using the meat grinder attachment to your stand mixer, pass handfuls of the dough through the grinder. Spread the bits of dough evenly over a baking tray.
    4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
    5. Meanwhile, beat 200g butter till light and creamy. Beat in the caramel till well combined.
    6. Add the cooled bits of cake to the caramel mixture. Stir and fold together till well incorporated.
    7. Mound the mixture onto a serving plate. Using buttered hands, form the mixture into an ant hill. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
