Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Line a 23cm (9 in) square tin with baking parchment or foil.
In a small pot over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate together until smooth. Add the merlot and whisk until fully incorporated and remove the pot from the heat.
Add the eggs to the chocolate mixture one at a time, and whisk to combine after each addition. Add the sugar and vanilla and stir to combine.
Add the flour, cocoa powder and salt and stir until smooth. Transfer mixture to prepared tin.
Bake in the oven for 25 minutes, or until the centre is set and a skewer comes out clean. When the brownies are done, let them cool.
Meanwhile, melt together the cooking chocolate and butter for the glaze. Once melted, whisk in the merlot and set aside.
Once cooled, drizzle the glaze over the brownies and spread it on top using a spatula.
