Easy vanilla frosting

    This marvellous vanilla icing will make you smack your lips with delight and surely make you so satisfied that you will never use a different type of icing ever again!

    Makes: 1 recipe frosting for a 23cm cake

    • 300g granulated sugar
    • 1 egg white
    • 5 teaspoons butter, slightly softened
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 3 tablespoons cold milk
    • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract (optional)

    1. Take a large bowl and mix your sugar and egg white until a creamy consistency.
    2. Once mixed together, add the softened butter using an electric mixer. Once smooth, add a pinch of salt and the milk.
    3. After whisking for approximately 5 minutes, add the oil. Fold in well. Now add 1 teaspoon cocoa powder if desired, or the vanilla.
    4. Finally, mix it all together until a thick, fine consistency. Now you can use this to frost a 23cm (9 in) cake or 12 cupcakes.

    This Recipe Was SO Helpful! I needed a quick, instant frosting and this was it! Not too sweet but tasty and the consistently was fabulous!!! I will definitely be using this recipe constantly as my favourite frosting !! It was PERFECT!  -  06 Apr 2013


    I tried this but got the same result as MsLooby. The consistency was very runny and granular/crunchy. I wasn't happy with the result and didn't use it in the end.  -  23 Aug 2017


    I followed to the letter, consistency was runny and the texture was crunchy, you could tell granulated sugar was used. I had to thicken with icing sugar and can still feel the granulated sugar in this. The recipe may have been better with icing sugar instead of granulated, the consistency may have been less runny. 😞  -  25 Apr 2015
