About this recipe: A BBQ sauce with Spanish flavour, straight from the sun-filled Spanish Costas. This will light up any barbecue.


Makes: 500 ml BBQ sauce

  • 350ml (12 fl oz) tomato ketchup
  • 200g (7 oz) soft brown sugar
  • 100ml (3 1/2 fl oz) red wine vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 55g (2 oz) butter
  • 1/2 small red chilli, chopped (or to taste)
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

  1. Place all the ingredients in a saucepan over high heat and, stirring continuously, bring to the boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for some 20 minutes or so until mixture is cooked and sauce has thickened slightly.
  3. Blitz with a hand blender and serve or store in the fridge till needed.
