Sparkling pink lemonade

    There's nothing like homemade lemonade for making a picnic feel complete. This lemonade gets a touch of pink from grenadine, and the rose petals, lemon slices and fresh mint leaves give it a sophisticated finish.

    Serves: 6 

    • 6 lemons, juiced and zested
    • 150g (5 oz) caster sugar
    • 500ml (3/4 pt) boiled water
    • 2 teaspoons grenadine syrup
    • 1L (1 3/4 pt) sparkling water, chilled
    • To serve
    • lemon slices
    • mint leaves
    • rose petals

    1. Put the lemon juice, zest and sugar into a large heatproof jug. Pour over freshly boiled water. Stir well until the sugar dissolves. Add the grenadine syrup. Leave to cool. Cover and chill.
    2. Strain the mixture into clean sealable bottles. Top up with mineral water and seal.
    3. Serve with lemon slices, mint leaves and rose petals (be sure to use petals that are suitable for food use).
