This is a family recipe for old fashioned toffee, which is just lovely and very much enjoyed by friends and family at parties and also around Christmas when we like to make large batches and give the toffee away as gifts.

170g granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon golden syrup

Grease and line a cake tin with greaseproof paper or parchment.
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil while stirring continuously for 15 minutes. When the toffee begins to darken, pour into the prepared tin, mark into squares and allow to cool. Break apart once set. The toffee can be stored in an airtight container or jars for weeks.
