About this recipe: These lovely butter whirls are elegant and classic and just perfect for a party or gathering. Great for dipping in tea when no one is looking.


Serves: 10 

  • 170g butter
  • 55g icing sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 170g plain flour
  • 10 glace cherries, halved

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 C / Gas 2/3. Grease a baking tray.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and icing sugar then add the vanilla extract and sift in the flour. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag and pipe into biscuit whirl shapes directly on to the baking tray.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool fully on a rack before serving.
