About this recipe: Autumn is the time to gather your sweet chestnuts. Sweet chestnuts are different than horse chestnuts, so you want to be sure that when you send your little kitchen helpers out to gather they know the difference.

  • 900g sweet chestnuts
  • salt, to taste

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 C / Gas 6.
  2. Cut a deep cross in the top of each chestnut and place onto a baking tray.
  3. Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes until the shell pulls away at the cross and the inside is tender. Remove from the heat and serve immediately with a little salt to taste.
